If you are going to have a new baby, the following steps will help you know the sequence of governmental procedures and services required to register the new-born baby in Umm Al-Quwan.
Opening a file for the pregnant woman:
The governmental hospitals in Umm Al-Quwain provide many services related to pregnancy and giving birth. After being sure of pregnancy, you have to go to one of these hospitals to open a file for you to follow up your health condition during pregnancy and after giving birth.
Birth certificate:
After the baby is born, you have to have issued a birth certificate for the new-born baby within 30 days at maximum as of the date of birth. To do this, you have to obtain a “birth notification” signed and sealed by the hospital in which giving birth occurred. You can have the birth certificate issued from the hospital in case the baby was born in a state hospital. If the baby was born in a private hospital, you should have the birth certificate issued from the Ministry of Health.
Passport:
After obtaining the birth certificate, you have to visit your country’s embassy or consulate and complete the procedures required to have a passport issued for the new-born baby. You have to call your country’s embassy to get all the details and information as the steps and legal procedures differ from one embassy to another. The conditions may also vary if the parents are of two different nationalities.
Residency permit:
To officially register the new-born baby in the state, you should go to the General Department for Residency and Foreigners’ Affairs to have the residency visa stamped on the new-born baby’s passport. You should do the following:
- Fill in the application form at the printing department.
- Pay the required fees.
- Hand over the application form with the other required documents to the residency department.
ID card:
You should have an UD card issued for the new-born baby and register him in the population records system at any center belonging to the Emirates Identity Authority. The registration procedures include the following steps:
- Presenting the required documents to any accredited printing center in Umm Al-Quwain.
- Paying the registration and printing fees.
- Receiving an SMS specifying the date and place of registration.
- Going to a registration center on the date and time specified in the SMS.
- Receiving a registration receipt from the printing center and the passport to complete the registration procedures.
- Receiving an SMS from the Emirates Identity Authority stating that the ID card is ready.
- Receiving the ID card from the Emirates post at the branch stated in the SMS.
